We need to take sustainability seriously
In the years since ABC Packaging’s formation, awareness of climate change and humanity’s effects on it have only grown. We’ve all seen the headlines; from plastic waste clogging our oceans to forest fires destroying habitats.
Fortunately, technology is advancing all the time. There are now more environmentally-friendly packaging options available than ever before. We’ve been at the forefront of integrating these into our products, from biodegradable films to recycled carboard.
Find out more about our different types of eco packaging options below:
Biodegradable Packaging
Consumers don’t always recycle, so biodegradable packaging is becoming a really popular way of making products more eco friendly.
Plastic-Free Packaging
Since the final episode Blue Planet II aired in 2017, one-use plastics have come under the spotlight for their effects on marine life.
Recycled and Recyclable Packaging
Making packaging from recycled materials and ensure it can be recycled when it reaches the end of its life is a great way to reduce your impact on the environment.
Sustainable Packaging
There are a variety of ways of making packaging more sustainable, including reducing the amount of raw material used in its production, recycling raw materials, making the packaging itself recyclable, and using raw materials that are in themselves, sustainable.
Our FSC® boxes and other FSC® packaging is from certified sources and fully sustainable. FSC® certified products are available on request. FSC® License Code C004309.
The Benefits of Environmentally-Friendly Packaging
We’ve found that putting sustainability first in packaging comes with a wide range of benefits!
Recycled packaging lowers consumption of raw materials and usually takes less energy to produce. This reduces your carbon footprint. Cardboard, paper, and plastic are some of the most commonly recycled materials. They’re used everywhere in packaging, so making the change to recycled materials is really worth it.
You can also save on raw materials by using as little packaging as possible for your products, which also lowers costs. We’ve all seen items arrive with huge amounts of excess packaging that just get thrown away. Reducing amounts of packaging means less waste overall. This saves it from ending up in landfill or polluting our oceans.
Many types of eco-friendly packaging also use non-oil based plastics, as petrochemicals are highly unsustainable. Plastics can now be made out of biodegradable materials such as starch which are much better for the environment. Eliminating our reliance on oil-based plastics now is a step towards a sustainable future for all.
On top of these benefits, using pro-environmental packaging will show customers you care. More and more people are looking to support sustainable companies. A 2020 survey even showed 74% of customers were willing to pay more for sustainable products.
